One of the first concerts I attended in 82/3 at the Aragon in Chicago. Their music defined my childhood. Hard hitting topics and always danceable. Inspired many bands to follow

Paul Simon was in my life since infancy: first with Simon and Garfunkel and then during my teen years with Graceland. I appreciate him more so now than in earlier years. Fantastic song writer, encompassing many different genres of music

four 20minute tracks of maximal repitition, minimal deviation. In saying that, feels more varied than previous albums. A meditative rock experience.

a huge change in style from The Worm, with some 80's electro goth influence. Surprised me, I expected to dislike it, but it's a grower

Vampire Weekend (and the Strokes) broke us out of a long slump of post-grunge rock that sucked. We owe them a debt

I really dig it! It’s still early and I need more listens but I’m liking the slower kind of more melancholic feel of this record. I was expecting more rock feel going into it.

I kind of just know the one song, the title song. But in high school my two friends and I would listen to it while we were driving around the neighborhood and take turns sticking our head out of the sunroof. It was at night, so I guess the moonroof. Very nostalgic feeling back then, in the moment, but now that the moment is history, the song is even more nostalgic. I don't actually love neil young very much, but I do like the song.

Relatable and catchy! I’ve been listening to it for weeks and it hasn’t gotten old yet. Remi’s lyrics are creative and fun and she has a really powerful voice.

Sad that I had to sell my tix to his monday night show because I was going to be away, but then I needed to change my plans because my wife needed to be back in NYC, so I could have gone to his show, but not anymore because the tickets are gone. But I did use the $$ I got from selling the tickets to buy tickets for LCD soundsystem in NYC in december...

The National · 2005
"Karen, I'm not taking sides I don't think I'll ever do that again I'll end up winning and I won't know why" Love those lyrics—particularly resonant for those of us who game arguments in bad faith! Karen, I think, is Matt Berninger writer wife and lyrical collaborator. Good stuff. Also, I briefly wondered if "Mr. November" was a reference to Derek Jeter for his 2001 heroics. A google search reveals it's about John Kerry. Bummer. Anyway, this album—like the rest of The National's work—is heady, dramatic, haunting. No wonder why guitarist Bryce Dessner does so many movie scores.

Otis Redding · 1965
I could listen to Otis' soulful voice on repeat. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. My standout track is "It's Too Late." I love the swinging piano chords and slick guitar licks that respond to Otis' voice. And don't get me started with the horn section! So, so good.

Vampire Weekend · 2008
What a debut album! My definitive choice for best indie album of the 2000s. It's a shame I can't choose more than 3 top songs because "Mansard Roof", "Blake's Got A New Face", and "The Kids Don't Stand A Chance" (oh and did I forget "Walcott"?) all deserve to be on the list too. My top song has to be Oxford Comma. It's a tongue and cheek song that focuses on a pedantic grammar rule to poke fun at the overly pretentious and elite.
