The Bicycle Thief · 2001
I come back to this album every year since 1999. it captures so many important things, and complex feelings of surrender so heartbeakingly beautiful it became the perfect support on my own journey. if the band is reading this review, thanks again for making this album, with love from Oslo, Norway.

Ahead of its time, 20 years later it feels like it’s brand new. Bands will try to replicate the magic of this for decades to come.

Logic · 2015
The construction of this album blew me away when it came out. The through line with the voice overs in between tracks connecting them to this cinematic arc was so impressive as a means to convey the songs. And then the tracks individually go on to speak themselves, the beats having a classic yet futuristic feel in keeping with the albums overall themes. Logic set himself apart with this one pushing for a higher concept.

One of the most complete and creative records in history

Nada Surf · 2003
Nada Surf is one of my favorite rock bands and Matthew Caws is one of my favorite lyric writers. He can find the poignancy in anything and craft it into a great band song. I love every Nada Surf record, and it'd be very difficult for me to pick a favorite. Let Go is the one that started it for me though, so it's the one I recommend as a jumping off point. If you like this one, you will like just about everything they've released since.

Say Anything · 2004
As a song writer, Max Benis broke into the emo scene and set Say Anything apart by diving into the his own mental health with witty and self deprecating lyrics that contrasted starkly to the more earnest lyrics of their contemporaries. Cleverly dismantling therapy culture in a way that acknowledges both its need and at times its absurdity.

I thought I’d grown out of her music, but there are a few real standouts here.

Another top notch album from 2022. All of The Beth’s albums a fantastic, this just happened to be my favorite of the bunch… so far!

This is a huge downgrade from The Secret of Us. The charm of her lyrics have worn off. I’m going to Audrey Hobart instead

Radiohead · 2007
The album where Radiohead finally picked their guitars back up. Will never forget when this dropped as a ‘pay what you want model’; changed the music in industry and more ways than one.

The Vapors · 1980
One of the best albums of the 80s. Many people have written off the Vapors as a 1 hit wonder, but this album defines power pop and is so much more. They are still making music today. Check out the album Together from 2020 for more recent great music of theirs.

“ And in the end, the love you make is equal to the love you take” Pretty much can’t be topped as a way to close it all out.

The Dead are known for their live shows and this is one the best released live albums. China cat -> Rider is the song(s) that made me a deadhead.
