Every song is power with a touch of a smile and a beer in hand.

Bloc Party · 2005
When a lot of other music was more predicable, Bloc Party introduced a jauntiness, unpredictability and fun. A banger of an album.

Night Tapes · 2025
I have kept finding my way back to this proper debut project from Night Tapes — this album is just a ridiculously clean look at a synth-heavy dreampop band.

IDLES · 2018
Love the IDLES so hard. The first live show I took both my sons to when they were 15 and 16 years old. They're the first modern band that captured the emotion and energy of some of the formative bands I grew up listening to, but like the 2.0 version where they care about your heart and mental health as well. Love their message, their music, the scum

The Cure · 1989
One of my favorite albums ever. No skips, pure passion, phenomenal lyrics, emotional rollercoaster.

Billy Joel · 1977
My parents loved Billy Joel when I was a kid. Hasn’t aged well for me - feel like the more I learned about him over the years the harder his music was to like.

Van Morrison · 1968
An interesting album where Van really explores his jazzier side. Some good stuff in here, but Moondance is better.

U2 · 1987
U2 isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but this is them at their best. Bonus points if you can listen to this in Joshua Tree. The big, open, atmospheric arrangements work well with the desert.
